The Loss Of Wisdom

The Loss Of Wisdom

I think of wisdom as the combination of knowledge plus experience. I feel like as a culture we are very much moving away from half of that equation. We are quickly becoming a culture that values knowledge far more than it values experience. It’s like the old adage, “in theory, there’s no difference between theory and practice.”

But the reality is that things rarely go exactly as the books say. It takes real hands-on time with a subject to truly understand it, and more importantly, to teach it to others. I see this as a growing issue as we move ever more into a virtual world. We could very well end up a population that doesn’t actually have the ability to do anything, but that “knows” how to do everything.

In this episode, I want to talk about what I see as the loss of knowledge.
